Dev4Gamers|D4G v2 - Land Shark - 08.14.06 Episode
Revelation 3:14,20
“[To the Church in Laodicea] “To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” (NIV)
I am going to be dating myself here, but I am reminded of an old original Saturday Night Live skit called Land Shark. Almost each week on the show there was a scene where someone would be at home watching TV or doing something else and there would come a knock on the door. Before opening the door the resident would wisely ask, “who is it?”, to which the reply was some random answer like, mail man, uh, tv repair man, traveling salesman. The person inside would then state that they have heard the reports of a land shark terrorizing the city and that it was not safe. The voice behind the door would continue to say things like, “tax man, candy gram, pizza delivery.” At some point in the skit the person at home would open the door and a huge shark head would devour them.
Sometimes we view God’s knocking on our hearts door to come back to him as this skit. We don’t want to open it for so many issues. Now so you understand this verse is not talking about Christ knocking on the door of an unbeliever for salvation. Go back and read all of this section of Revelation and you will see that Jesus is say ing to the people in Laodicea that they have wondered so far from the truth that they are in serious trouble. God is saying if only one person would open the door and let me back in I will spare your church.
We have our ups and downs in our walk wit the Lord. Do not let yourself get so far away from him that you do not recognize his knock on the door. And when you say who is it, he says, It is I, the Lord.
