Nowhere Man|And That's the Way It Is Episode
Just a few more days and he could have celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing with us. Mr. Cronkite talked us through that momentous event live in the summer of 69, becoming visibly emotional as Neil Armstrong stepped off the ladder and boldly went where no man had gone before. News men weren't supposed to get emotional, but every single American watching that night was overwhelmed with the same emotions. For that brief, fleeting moment, he and his viewers were united in pride, awe, and curiosity as they reached a common realization of the triumph the moment represented for all of us as members of the human race. He reported dozens of important events, but few meant so much to him as our conquest of space. And now he's off to that big news room in the sky. Happy Trails, Sir.
