Good Monday morning! John here with today’s devotion.
I’ll be reading from Proverbs 22:17-21 (ESV),
17 Incline your ear, and hear the words of the wise,
and apply your heart to my knowledge,
18 for it will be pleasant if you keep them within you,
if all of them are ready on your lips.
19 That your trust may be in the Lord,
I have made them known to you today, even to you.
20 Have I not written for you thirty sayings
of counsel and knowledge,
21 to make you know what is right and true,
that you may give a true answer to those who sent you?
So what exactly is Solomon saying here? I’ll try and break it down for you as I understand it, I’ll start with a gaming analogy.
Remember when you were a n00b? You stumbled around in whatever MMORPG you were playing, dying frequently, wondering if you’d ever level. Then you hooked up with a veteren of the game. Perhaps he showed you some tricks to levelling or perhaps he helped you learn to navigated the game better. Whatever he did, you learned from his wisdom so that you wouldn’t make the same mistakes.
Solomon is saying the same to his sons. He saying, “Look, I’ve written these Proverbs for you so that you can learn from my wisdom and my mistakes.” God has given us not only the Proverbs of Solomon but also the whole Bible so that we can learn from the mistakes of others and to learn from His wisdom so that we won’t make the same mistakes. Of course, we still goof every once in a while, we act like a n00b if you will, but God is still there to pick us up, dust us off and get us back on the right path. Let Jesus be your example and learn from the mistakes of others so that your walk with God is fruitful one.
Let’s pray.
