But thenagain, why would G.Love have anything but a good showing. What other white boy can wobble his knees like that in atacky checkered suit and make it look cool? Who else suckson the harmonica like it’s the best joint that he’s evertasted and leave the rest of the crowd horny for some moreG.Lovin? He’s an average looking guy with an Elvis hair -dobut the truth is he doesn’t give a shit. He just wants toplay the music and spread the love and that’s what he did atthe Theatre. He gave the people what they paid for.So the ticket was $20 which is a lot of money for usspoiled music fans in Athens, but other than a few minorcomplaints, the ticket was well worth the money. The bandnever played “Love” or “Electric Mile,” not everyone wasdancing, the place was not packed, and it was pouring rainoutside. But then again, as previously stated, these arebut minor complaints. The small crowd at the beginning grew to be muchlarger by the end of the night and although the room was notpacked, it was comfortable and intimate. People within theaudience were friendly to others trying to get through, probably because they were stoned, but nonetheless, the showhad a very chill environment. There was a good mixture ofstoners, scene-sters, frat/sorority kids, and hippie-folk.There wasn’t too much dancing, but the few that decided todo it went all out. No one seemed judging, or angry, or toocool to get their hands out of their pockets, it was a laid-back place to be. There were a lot of long time fans andbrand new fans, people that knew all the words and peoplethat knew none. As a whole, it felt like a back porchgathering of a bunch of friends over some soul-funk jivesand some marijuana. The merch table was selling panties with “BootyCall” on the back, a few people were groping, a fewmarijuana clouds were hovering…it was truly a night of love.If not at the actual concert, there had to have been a fewbooty calls that happened as a result afterwards.G.Love was pretty open to the song requests and keptit going until he was drenched in sweat. The Special Saucedid a spectacular job, playing just as good live, if notbetter, than they do on all of their albums. He and theband played a lot of the favorites like “My Baby GotSauce”, “This Ain’t Living” and “Gimme Some Lovin‘,” goinginto an encore set that lasted longer than the originalperformance. The show ended up running on for a good threehours making for a memorable night for all G.Love fans. Alot of good music and a lot of good people, a good nightindeed.- Kelly
