This didn't seem like a big deal at the time because bands like mogwai, tristeza and tortoise were breaking new musical ground without vocals. Thus, maserati began to take cues from such bands by experimenting with intricate guitar melodies, odd time signatures, quiet/loud dynamics and crescendos. Over the years, however, maserati honed in on its own sound by focusing less on angularity and more on memorable guitar hooks. The band re-emerged in mid-2005 with totally different band dynamics and newfound inspirations. With the addition of drummer Jerry Fuchs and the return of original guitarist Matt Cherry, the band has created a completely new body of work that owes more to classic guitar rock, psychedelia, ambient and krautrock than to math-, post-, punk- or other contemporary rock affiliations. Maserati now seeks to pay homage to a larger spectrum of rock pioneers including Can, Ash Ra Tempel, Brian Eno and Pink Floyd. The band is set to record its new album in May 2006 with Andy Baker in Athens, GA.
