Toyo Ito is one of Japan's most innovative and influential architects, well known in design and architectural circles around the world for his poetic and refined buildings. He was in Australia on a lecture tour in February talking about what he calls Generative Order, a concept drawn from science where a system evolves to produce something entirely new. Many of his buildings are now built around the world. He is a keen observer of human nature. His designs ask for us to release what he calls our 'inner Tarzan'.
Signage: the art of showing the way
As we make our way from our home or office to wherever we have to be, helping us along are signs. They could be street signs in the city or, in the country, some landmark in the natural world—a mountain by which to navigate or a stream to follow.
