Ephesians 4:32“ Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”No one likes to be TK’ed, or team killed by their own team member. But it is a part of many games that the same weapon you use to take down your opponent will also take down your team mate if you are not careful.We run our Day of Defeat server with friendly fire turned on. This means that you can wound or even kill your team mate by an accidental grenade or strafing across the field and catching them instead of the opponent. Some argue it is better to play with FF off so they do not accidentally hurt there team mates. But if we did that we would miss such a great biblical teaching point.Our rules state that when you are accidentally tk’ed there should be 2 responses. First is that the person who accidentally made the error should apologies. It takes little time at all for a player to type our“sry” or heaven forbid take a couple more micro seconds and type out the full word. This help’s to build the sense of taking personal ownership of ones own actions.The response of the person who is on the receive side of the TK is found in the principles of this verse. Our rules and in game add’s state that you should forgive a player for accidental tking them. Especially if they say they are sorry. They are presented with a menu that gives them two choices. 1. Forgive, 2 Slay. If they slay the player, the player is struck down by what looks like a bolt of lightning and they have to wait to respawn. Our admins continue to tell new players that they should always forgive.What is interesting to me is that I have seen many players learn this Biblical principle in a short amount of time. Many coming in with a very self centered attitude that it is ok to TK or it’s not there fault, or what ever bad habits they picked up somewhere else. In just a short amount of time the realize that saying I’m sorry and forgiving is just right.Wouldn’t be cool if we could look into these players lives and see that God’s Word even touches them there. No longer being irresponsible and blaming others, but taking responsibility for themselves and forgiving others just as Christ forgave us.
