With an appreciation for garage rock guitar tone, rhythmic stomp, and folk-rock vocals – as well as a fascination with adding some sonic texture and ambient notes into the mix, Standing Nudes sound surprisingly clothed in layers of warm and unique sound. “Rita,” from their album Ghost Story, is drenched in disarming cloaks of feedback, yet forges ahead with Molly’s soaring female vocals until it breaks into pure rock n’ roll. “Another Kind of Lover” showcases a penchant for a blues-meets-Sleater-Kinney indie rock vibe -- albeit with Standing Nude’s trademark wah-pedal guitar savagery. If you ever find yourself in a grungy dive bar witnessing a live set from this powerful four-piece, you’ve done yourself quite the favor. –Bill Dvorak
