The WholeLife Pages LIVE!|A Vision Quest for Life Episode
Life is ceremony, and ceremony inspires our life. In our vision quest, we break from the day-to-day to create an opportunity for an extended ceremonial experience on sacred land, inspired and guided by an ancient matriarchal lineage. This is an opportunity to deepen our connection to spirit and to develop self-awareness, heighten our gratitude for the gifts in our life, and engage our willingness to change what's not working. In this way, we gain an awareness of the beauty, power and magic in our lives.
During this show, we'll hear about the significance, excitement and possibility of the vision quest experience from Debra Laughlin, a student of 20 years on the Sweet Medicine SunDance Path and Director and one of the instructors for the Arizona Red Lodge Longhouse Program. The Longhouse is a profound educational program of spiritual study and ceremony for those dedicated to balanced self-growth in all aspects: emotional, physical, mental, spiritual, and soul force.
These teachings are the modern day embodiment of an age-old tradition that has been preserved and enhanced by the Twisted Hair Elders who, for thousands of years, have woven together knowledge from many sources together in a mystery school centered on braids of universal truth. In 1986, The Deer Tribe Metis Medicine Society (DTMMS) was founded as a non-profit educational organization whose focus is to share knowledge of the medicine wheels and keys, train teachers, and be a spiritual gathering place. Their primary goal is to teach a time-tested and timeless body of knowledge to all humans who, like the Twisted Hairs, seek spiritual evolution.
This vision quest experience can also be extended into a greater adventure of growth and expansion. For something to really work it has to show up in our daily lives. They follow the vision quest with the Red Lodge Longhouse program to support making grand visions real in their lives. The Longhouse program is designed to:
* Discover ways to grow beyond how we currently think and see ourselves.
* Find satisfying and effective ways to reach our life goals.
* Explore a deeper connection with a higher energy, i.e., Great Spirit, God, Jesus, Buddha, Krishna, in a strong heartfelt way.
* Look at how we create predictable patterns of reaction to people and events in daily life and see ways to make positive changes.
Having the ability to heal within a community of like-minded individuals is key to living a fulfilled life. One of the joys of both the vision quest and the Longhouse is the experience of the community: the coming together of people (students and teachers alike) dedicated to their highest potential. Together exploring what it means to be inquisitive, free-thinking, co-empowering individuals who live our shining. Many of us integrate study of this path with other spiritual traditions.
The Vision Quest is just one of the opportunities open to the public throughout the year. They also sponsor open houses, sweat lodge ceremonies, elder teachings, and other gatherings.
