Bigcontact|Trash Bar turns 4 with a 3 day recorded live show Episode
A band by any other name would not smell as sweet. The name White Magic affirms the mystical aura that swirls around the room as their 2007 EP "Dark Stars" (Drag City) dances through the speakers. Billed by New York Magazine as "one of New York's great talents," White Magic's haunting minor chords and odd rhythmic crafting prove to be distinctive in a sea of indiscernible freak folk bands and female pianist-singers. The desperate, spiritual cries of vocalist Mira Billotte (more Grace Slick than Regina Spektor) are almost painful to listen to at times, but it is this challenge that makes White Magic's music a legitimate work of art and an extremely cathartic listen. - Shira Knishkowy
