Kaleo Church Spokane Podcast|Unedited: Part Nine (Mark 2:23-3:6) Episode
Sabbath. Antiquated? Realistic? Legalistic? Relevant? In this week's text we find Jesus' actions and explanations of the Sabbath to be ones that feed and heal. And yet why does this lead the God experts of his day to plot murder, to be filled with rage, and to completely dismiss Jesus and his "new exodus" movement? As we look into this we do so considering our own view and practice (or non-practice) of Sabbath and its relationship to a sustainable life and faith. During our time we viewed a video produced by ESPN on E:60 entitled Fight Club that tells the story of a group of tech workers in Silicon Valley who fight as a means of finding life, meaning, and essence beyond the droning existence of their job, society's values, etc. This serves as a striking portrait of a culture, and even a church culture at times, that have gone the way of wringing everything we can out of our time, only to be left devoid of true life, which in contrast, the Sabbath is designed to produce.
