The Underdog Democrat|Immigration: Republicans Fight, Democrats Reap Episode
The House GOP strategy this year is nothing short of bizzare. In this podcast, we discuss how immigration issue that conservative GOP House members are betting on to rally the base, represents a televised foodfight between the conservative GOP house and the President and how its a terrible way to sell a party in 2006. Although some GOP strategists see it as the way to take attention from Iraq in 2006, they will find it difficult to capitalize the issue when their own President is very much against them.
Although not all Democratic voters march in lock-step with the national party on the current immigration bill, and Democrats should develop a tough policy on border security, in terms of politics Democrats simply can't lose on their stance on immigration. The President provides them cover from Republican attacks and at the same time they are taking a strong united stand on the most important issue to most Hispanic voters.
