The Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour|Woodsongs 481: Kathy Mattea Episode
KATHY MATTEA is the beloved, Grammy-winning singer of such classics as “18 Wheels and A Dozen Roses, “Where’ve You Been,” and many other hits. Her new album COAL is a concept album that she’s been thinking about making since she was 19 when she heard “Dark as a Dungeon” for the first time. The songs are more than just mining songs, they are a tribute to her hometown and the people of Charleston, WV. The album really began to take shape after the Sago Mine Disaster of 2006 which killed twelve West Virginia miners. The CD was produced by Marty Stuart.
