Time to think|Time To Think - November 6, 2007 - What is truth? Episode
I was watching a talk show on T.V. recently where The Host’s beliefs were obviously deeply rooted in conventional Christianity. He was interviewing, or to be more correct, grilling, interrogating two members of the Bahai Faith, which it was most obvious he did not agree with. This was most evident by his overall demeanor, his body language, his tone of voice, and his questions. The Host of course kept referring to The Scriptures, as if there was only one set of Sacred Scriptures in The Universe. It really does amaze me, how utterly arrogant so many so-called Christians can be as they talk about The Bible, as if it is the only book ever written about matters spiritual.
Over the years, I’m delighted that I’ve engaged in considerable studies in Comparative Religions; so I am more than aware of the fact, that each man-made religion has it’s own book, its manual for its followers to be guided by. For example: apart from The Bible, there’s The Koran, The Bagvad Gita or Hindu Gospels, The teachings of Buddha, The Science of Mind, and indeed hundreds, no thousands of other books dealing with spiritual matters, each of which contain some sense, some wisdom, and of course a whole lot of NONSENSE too.
So, let’s get this matter straight once and for all. There is no ONE right religion! There is no ONE book which has the exclusive corner on The TRUTH. When religionists become so very arrogant as to state that their particular belief system is the only right one, that’s when they, in my opinion, start to think, speak and act in a most un-godly manner as they haughtily proclaim in a most loud voice, that they are right and everyone else is wrong. That they’re the sole purveyors of The TRUTH, and that basically everyone else is out of their mind. So we now get to the important question posed by the title of this particular article ‘What is Truth?’. Well, let me answer that important question.
In the days of Christopher Columbus, the prevailing belief of that time, was that the world was flat. It was believed in most circles, that as Christopher Columbus set out on his quest to discover the so-called New World, his ship would in effect sail over the edge of the perceived flat world, never to be seen again. In other words, that’s what most thinking human beings at that time believed to be ‘The Truth’. However, as we all know only too well, they, the majority of people at that time were in fact terribly wrong, as Christopher Columbus did in fact discover his so-called New World whilst proving that the world is in fact round….this is the REAL TRUTH.
So, just because a group of religious people state that their teachings from their book is ‘The Truth’; it does ‘not necessarily make it so. After all Jesus The Master Teacher challenged so much of the spiritual teachings of his time. He had the guts to challenge to so-called TRUTH of his day. If we are all to eventually come to The Ultimate TRUTH….that which is, we MUST continue to question, and thus not follow blindly what others dictate!
THINK ABOUT IT!
