Tech companies spent $207 billion on tech mergers andacquisitions last year, up from just $65 billion in 2002, says researcher The451 Group." ... "When a market is young, there are enough new customers foreverybody. Once growth slows, "Companies acquire other companies to get theircustomer base," Krause says.Event Of The Week (EOW):Saturday, October 22 2005 8:30am - 4:30pmInstitute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE): IEEE Consultants'Network Business 2005 Seminar (CBS-2005)_____________________________________________________________________SPECIAL EVENT:ORGANIZATION NAME: Windows IT Pro/SQL Server MagazineEVENT NAME: SQL Server 2005: Built for the Enterprise. The measures of employment andunemployment reported in this news release reflect both the impact of Hurri-cane Katrina, which struck the Gulf Coast in late August, and ongoing labormarket trends. Over the 12 months ending in August, payroll employment grewby an average of 194,000 a month and the unemployment rate trended downward.Employment Rant:Regarding this data and the Silicon Valley news of the week...This "Big Fish" eating "Little Fish" jazz doesn't mean there is growth - onlyattrition... which then can lead to malnutrition in the larger companies - youknow the kind, when you walk thru the floors of executive buildings and scoresof cubicles are bare the the bone.Buying smaller companies doesn't buy you R&D, marketing, IT improvements orbetter sales figures - investing in people does that for a company or region. So, a word to the older set of Boomers out there who are biding their time 'tillretirement by looking savvy and buying up competitors while they make middlemanagers do the job of three people - get out of the way and retire - or betteryet, take the time to mentor someone under you to take over the bloated fishof a company you're over feeding!_____________________________________________________________________Humorous News:TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan is moving towards requiring owners of potentiallydangerous animals, such as crocodiles and pythons, to have microchips implantedin their pets in case the animals get loose, officials said on Thursday. The move follows a recent wave of incidents around the nation in which animalssuch as pythons, crocodiles and giant salamanders have been found wanderingloose, frequently on the streets of densely populated cities. In one notorious case, a man lost track of his pet python after he took theanimal "for a walk" in a park and the snake fled when the man fell asleep on abench. He was quoted by one TV station as saying he was surprised the snakedisappeared because it wasn't that kind of snake. The Environment Ministry is drawing up a law that would require tiny cylindricalmicrochips -- 1 centimetre (0.4 inch) long and 2 millimetres (0.08 inch) indiameter -- implanted under the skin of some 650 animal species, a ministryofficial said. Each microchip would carry information making it possible to trace the owner ifthe animal goes missing.Hmmm...I could think of a few people that scientists might add to that650 animal species list... ;-)Have a great weekend and a better week ahead!_____________________________________________________________________Podcast MP3 Link:http://TechVenue.com/PODCASTS/TechVenue_10-14-2005.mp3
