Oh No Not Again|Who's on First?: The Originators Episode
One band does not a movement make. These groups were very different from each other, but going in the same direction--forward. Members of many of these bands were in Punk groups, but found the format limiting, or in some way no longer relevant. This episode has songs from Magazine, (perhaps the very first Postpunk band), Public Image Limited (without doubt in the first 2), The Birthday Party ( in some ways punk, but going beyond), Killing Joke ( a major in fluence on Industrial, Goth and Metal), Gang of 4 ( the most known and currently the biggest in fluence on the 80's revival), and more from The Au Pairs ( similar to GO4, --- musically equal, or even superior---but with a female energy up front, and arguably more angry and more socially critical---and sadly underrated)
