Ottawa has until Friday to act on Abdelrazik case

Lawyers for a Montreal man stranded in Sudan say the government must act soon on his case or face possible contempt of court charges. Abousfian Abdelrazik is still living in the lobby of the Canadian Embassy in Khartoum even though he had a plane ticket to return to Canada last Friday, June 12. A Federal Court justice ruled on June 4 the government breached his constitutional rights by not giving him an emergency passport to fly home. Prison activist Ed Mead on the U.S. prison system

Ed Mead was imprisoned in the 1970s for his actions with the George Jackson Brigade, a radical group which blew up public buildings and robbed banks.  While in prison, he helped found Prison Legal News. Social workers say child protection system not working

Social workers in B.C. have such heavy caseloads and so few resources that they can do little for the families who need help. Child protection workers say they can't do their jobs without adequate housing or treatment centres and many are quitting in frustration. B.C. park ranger positions cut

B.C. Environment Minister Barry Penner says there are 200 rangers on-duty in the summer. In fact, the number is closer to 60. The Western Canada Wilderness Committee and the Sierra Club of B.C. released a Freedom of Information document last week. The document shows that the B.C.
